Underfloor Heating Doing It’s Bit For The Boys
One of the largest underfloor heated systems has been installed by HS-Tech in a 1300m2 restaurant on HMS Collingwood near Portsmouth. The project was in collaboration Prime Contractors VT Flagship for the Royal Naval Estate Organisation. The complex pipework was laid in just 5 days and is a testimony to contemporary underfloor heating technology. HMS Collingwood is the home of the Maritime Warfare School and is the largest naval training facility in Western Europe.
An underfloor heating system was selected due to the superior effectiveness and energy efficiency it offers. With convectional heating systems like radiators, the heat rises and sometimes fails to heat the whole room, warming the upper part but not the lower. With underfloor heating the heat is constantly streaming from the floor heating the whole room. Some 30, 000-naval personnel pass through there annually and they can now enjoy warm meals in a warm environment.
A similar underfloor heating project in the PAYD hall at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth was such a success that they decided to repeat it on HMS Collingwood. In your home the difference can be felt between a radiator heating system and underfloor heating and the experts working on HMS Collingwood knew that a convectional heating system would not stand a chance in such a wide space, so like many domestic consumers selected to go with underfloor heating.
